Time to pay the dues
I was sent this letter through a local 4x4 club that I am joining and figured maybe some of you might want to help. I deleted the phone number for Les so you may contact me through email for the number to get more info.
For those of you that don't know Combs road is in Bloomington, part of the Hoosier National Forest. I has been a favorite place to 4x4 for years but not anymore.
More and more of the great offroading places are getting closed. Maybe if we show we are willing to work for our hobby they will be a little nicer in the future.
Here is the email I received.
Lots of talk has been going around about Combs Rd., but now comes our opportunity to
do more than just talk. Combs Road was shut down by a Judge who ruled it unsafe. We have seen a mess along there if you ever went there, How ever we didn't follow the Tread Lightly
program and clean it up some when we visited, mostly because it was over whelmed with trash, and what we did pick up didn't make a dent in it. Recently we have had a lot of talk
of doing a trail clean up there. Today I was Contacted by Les of the HNF
service they have invited us to a Clean-Up day on March 12, 2005.
For further information you can contact Les @
Les has told me that once the clean up is done, that's the first step,
that HNF service has plans for some reconstruction work on Combs Road,
Taking care of the ditches, and deep ravines, getting it to drain properly, and
smoothing out the road bed, that will be the next step.
However I don't want to mislead you, If we do this, and they do that, there still is no
guarantee that this road will re-open, The county has a 5 year option on it. Personally
I think this is a good way to show we care, and are willing to work to get it done. I don't see where it will hurt anything, so it will have to help.
Thank you for your help and support.
