Ignition system

77 Bluebird bus with 477-534
It started and promptly quit like out of fuel, now won't start, replaced the cap and rotor and coil. It's on propane and the fuel system seems to be ok and fuel there, however when turning it over with a plug wires off and shorted out to a ground, produces a good spark that weakens quickly to nothing after turning over a bit. 3 wires produced the same results and can only get at one side without taking the doghouse off. It at times sounding like it wants to go at first. It has an electronic ignition with a Standard Motor Products module that looks like a Ford copy with 4 & 2 wire plugs. A mechanic friend mentioned the possibility that it's a problem with the pick up in the distributor. Any one know what will fit? or how to test them. Any ideas?
