Water in fuel question
Recently with the comeing of the colder wether I have had my water in fuel light on my message board come on in a weird fashion. the light will come on when the truck is leanin to the left while turning left. The light will come on while the truck is turning and then go off when the truck is leveled off again. I figured it was the water seperator being almost full so I drained the bowl and the the light would stay off for a while and return to the same behavior. I have been running PowerService additives in it and the problem persists.I gettin sick of seeing all that diesel hit the ground from draining the bowl. any Ideas? Im gonna put a new fuel filter in see if that helps
thanks.
thanks.

There are three things that can give you water in the fuel:
One is water in the fuel you pump into your truck.
Another is condensation forming inside the tank, caused by temperature extremes and high humiditiy.
The other is a leak in your fuel tank that allows rain water in. Older trucks have the possibility of the top of the tank rusting through, and allowing rain water that has been thrown up there by the tires to enter the tank.
If you're getting a persistent "Water in fuel" light, I'd drain the water as needed to get through that tank of fuel, then replace the fuel filter and drain the water again as soon as you get fuel from a different source. That's always worked for me.

not sure of your truck but my dad has a 97 cab and chassis model/ flatbed with the two filler necks in the middle of the bed right next to his gooseneck ball. he always gets the water in fuel light unless he covers his caps with a bag. and a side note:
i was driving his truck with him in it he was injured. water in fuel light kept coming on i tried to pull over to drain he said no keep driving 2 minutes later truck died. didn;t start for a day and needed 3 injectors replaced. moral of the story. injectors====$$$$$$$$$$. draining fuel bowl =======.00.00.00.00.00.00

To get the cap off the fuel filter, use something long, thin, and strong, like a large screwdriver, or 10" socket extension. Lay the screwdriver in the slots of the cap, and rotate counterclockwise. You'll probably have to reposition the screwdriver from time to time, because there isn't much space for rotation of the screwdriver.
