90 7.3 .after turning on key the wait light go`s off but i still here clicking .it gets faint to hear but never stops even with it running.also volts dim with clicking?? i don`t thank it`s GP controler.any info???
the glow plugs will continue to cycle after the wait to start goes out.this is normal,it helps to keep the white smoke thats common with cold starts to a minimum.it should stop after a few seconds,if not could be a controller prob.
Yours being a 90 truck will not have the exact fuses stated in the following but the sequence is the same basically........clicking is the after glow.
When the Ignition Switch is turned to START or RUN, voltage from Maxi-fuse K is applied through the Glow Plug Controller to the Wait-To-Start Indicator Lamp.
The Glow Plugs heat up in zero to fifteen seconds, depending on engine coolant temperature. After the Glow Plugs heat up, the controller cycling switch opens and turns the Wait-To-Start Indicator Lamp off. The Glow Plugs are now warm enough for the engine to be started.
At the same time the Ignition Switch is turned to RUN, voltage from Maxi-fuse K is applied to the after-glow timer (located inside the Glow Plug Controller). The after-glow timer cycles the Glow Plugs for up to two minutes, depending on engine temperature. The after-glow timer then opens. The Wait-To-Start Indicator Lamp will not light during the after-glow period.
If the Ignition Switch is turned OFF, it can be turned to ON immediately, and the Glow Plug heating cycle will start again.
i got a question concerning the glow plug cycle to about a week ago my light quit working on the dash not even coming on at all and no clicking noise either. checked the glowplugs all of them are good, used a test light on the relay on the back side of the motor some call it a controller but by Napa its called a glow plug relay that screws into the block , when i tested the plug that plugs into this relay only pin 1 and 8 would light, thought all of them was suppose to light through , checked for any shorts in the wires, none found, checked the ignition controller on the fender well one side will light the test light but the other side one is dim and the other where the battery hooks up and then goes to the seloniod will not light at all took it off and cleaned it still nothing and dont know exactly where the fuse is thats suppose to be between the relay on the back side of the motor and the ignition either some help on this would be great so i dont buy the wrong thing and it still not work need to know asap if anyone can help me out on this thanks Lance by the way its a 1985 Ford 1 ton crew cab dually 6.9 granny 4spd with only 175k miles on it
Texas I would advise you read this info and consider a "push button" system. I would advise against a toggle switch as they can and will be inadvertently left on.....
thanks PLC7.3 but got it to work i replaced the controller on the fender well and the relay on the back of the motor anyway , took and cleaned some of the plugs coming from the wiring harness for the glowplugs and some other plugs with liquid wrench and the little silve box on the fender well that says motorcraft unplugged it and did the same thing with the liquid wrench and what do u know it works good now, next thing on the list is glow plugs and the glow plug wiring harness and injectors if u or anyone know where i could get some good ones at let me know im willing to pay the price for the injectors though. i keep emailing Banks about a turbo setup but they never email me back plus i emailed Staydyne injector pump or however u spell it lol i got one off of a pickup that the motor was no good just sent them an email wondering when it was bought but i never get emails back from anyone but on here for some reason lol but thank yall this site has helped me out on this , just a few weeks ago i replaced the block heater too , other than the new glowplugs, wiring harness for them, injectors im going to have the radiator redone too going to try to get alittle more horsepower out of it hopefully going to put stacks on it soon too. but thank yall alot

another thing last nite after i got it to working good my lights were very dim and the dash lights too that would be the alternator right lol forgot all about that sorry about this thanks Lance
got one brand new battery the other one is just almost new and the alternator is still good too might have to pull the dash apart again or just do like i did on my old pickup and have a what they call chicken lights well put one on the dash like my old pickup didnt have any dash lights and it worked good too
k do u know why after i fixing all this i still dont get any clicking noise or the glow plug light dont work too the light is still good though head lights were bright tonite just the dash lights still
Glow plug WTS light is powered/grounded through the small connector with the black/pink wire at the controller. Check all your cab fuses........re dash lights.
