DonFX4: I can't speak for the others that own an 04 / 05 with the same "situation" as a large # of us, but this "CAM PHASER" issue is wide spread (read the forum) there is a copy of the TSB from Ford (in this forum) with the fix that doesn't fix the "issue". Personally I have owned including this truck 7 Ford 4X4's S/C's, Screw's, 5 GMC 4X4's RegCab's & S/C's & 4 Toyota FJ40's Jeeps 4X4 in the 70's & early 80's. So for myself I understand what it is that I have bought & got. After the 1st week I owned my New 04 Lariat Screw & the noises appeared I went looking for information. Looked at many Forums and found this one to be informative and real. Also I am fortunate to have a Service Manager who is giving me the straight goods on the "issue". Some of the people have been fed a line by thier SM's. They are looking for answers same as the rest of us that have, I'll say it "PROBLEMS", and I believe if all of us take the time to become informed we can present a case to our Service Depts and in turn force Ford into a proper and permanent fix. It is a terrible disappointment to in the 1st 10 days of ownership to walk into the service bays to see your new unit hood up valve covers off, tools stuck into the heart of your motor to change out what essentialy is a piece of bad engineering. i would like to see disclosure from Ford on this problem with a real world solution forthcoming. Trading out or up or selling out is not an option without significant $ losses. We need Ford & thier Reps to assist us in this matter after all we in good faith bought thier product under the assumption that it was their best effort we were purchasing.

neveragain...duly noted, the cam phaser problem is out there also.

For the legit problems, this board can be the best hope you have of getting them corrected. Discussing them in an intelligent manner, offering troubleshooting tips or relaying what fixed them for someone else is the best content here. Alot of guys have helped out with the last resort; the DSB or lemon law. There's some good stuff!

But rant after rant after rant gets old.

Exclamation People Want To Vent

Dear DonsFX4,

You always seem to be down on people who talk about the problems with their truck. Alot of the time the ones with the problems just need a place to vent their anger, I would much rather type out some hate mail then drive to Detroit and run my truck thru their front doors. I'm glad to hear your truck is running fine so does mine except for the vibe, wheel shimmie, engine noise, and rattles. I still like this truck but all these problems have ruin this truck for me. I 'm not downing Ford I will buy another one and again after that probly as well.
A run down of my cars and trucks.
1982 Light blue Escort first and only used car
All the rest new
1988 Silver XLT Ranger Regular Cab Was cool it had duel fuel tanks and the spare tire was mounted in the bed behind the drivers side window
1993 Blue XL F-150 Regular Cab
1995 Purple XLT F-150 Regular Cab Best riding truck I have owned
1995 Green Thunderbird
1997 Blue XLT F-150 Regular Cab
1997 Tan XLT F-150 Supercab
1998 Black XLT Ranger
1998 Red XL F-150 Basic truck with 4.2 V6 ran with any 4.6 and would beat them all the time, sombody at the factory did somthing to the rearend because it wasnt limited slip it was posi. It was a regular cab and that truck would move.
2000 Blue Laritet F-150 Supercab Viberation could not be fixed DSB Buy back
2001 Blue Laritet F-250 Supercab
2001 Sivler XLT Supercab
2003 Gray XLT Supercrew
2004 Red XLT Supercrew DSB hearing Feb 10
I'm going to get my 2003 Gray Supercrew back or my dealer has a used 2004 Gray Lighting if I win my DSB.

As you can see I'm not a sports car driver by any means. I just want my truck to ride and drive like it should. If I had read the forums before buying this truck I would have had a heads up on these problems and not bought it. Maybe some one will see this post and be able to keep their sanity, I have just about lost mine.

My mods if you can call them that K&N Air Filter, Vent visors, bug shield, Kenwood MP3 radio, and paint shields that say F-150 for my rear doors kicker panels like the ones in the front.

I'm about to throw in the towel on this place once and for all.

I'm sorry for those of you having problems but there is just too much doom and gloom every time I logon here. I want to see and share ideas about mods and such.

SuperCab 5.5
I don't see any doom and gloom on this site. I just see people trying to help each other out by communicating and sharing information.

If you have no problems with your truck, that's great. But do realize that other people do, and they want to talk about them. Nobody is forcing you to read those threads.

There are plenty of other threads that deal with cosmetic, power improvement, mods, towing etc that you can read.

Didn't your truck come with an owners manual?

Didn't your truck come with an owners manual? Don't you read or at the very least glance through them when you buy a new car? Ford's DSB is cleary explained in the warranty literature that comes with a new vehicle.

Greg...now, now... shouldn't generalize ya know. That's not my inclination at all. What the "irk factor" stems from is that the same issues are being brought up time and time again. If only the people new to this forum would sit back and observe, then search, then maybe even read their owners manual, alot of frustration could be addressed on the front end.

If I can help somebody with a problem on their truck, I'd be the first to offer support if I was able. But I'm still learning the ownership aspect of this rig, in fact I bought the wiring diagram manual from Helm's to help learn some of the whiz-bang electronics found throughout this vehicle.

But I'm not down on people who have problems with their truck, only those that don't bother to educate themselves before tossing yet another grenade in the forum.

BTW, that's an EXTREMELY impressive list of Ford's you've had!! You a dealer??

Smile Just like to upgrade

Dear DonsFX4

No I'm not a dealer I just like to upgrade. My brother in law gets me a-plan.

I agree with you on the owners manual more people should read them. I see
people asking how to disable the seat beat reminder, change the radio station, turn the headlights on/off, its clearly in the manual read it. You can see by my list of trucks I'm not new to trucks but I get my manual and at least glace over it just to see whats new.

I wasnt mad about your post like I said Alot of us need to vent.

I'm mad now I just found out my dealer sold my old truck to someone so now if Ford buys mine back I haft to get something different, might have to get a 2004 Lighting. Woe is me woe is me.

DonFX4:
did you read "gregrog" I too could list all the trucks, jeeps, motorcycles, snowmachines, and quads etc. that I have owned to prove that I am not a first time buyer of a pickup and looking for sports car ride and all. These trucks are mechanically a step backwards for Ford I would guess that there was not enough time spent testing all the new technology and metalurgy what with the vibrations, dog tracking, tire humping, frame wobbling, front end shimmy and the list goes on. Oh and don't forget my favorite the gasoline diesel noises that only Ford has been able to create in a modern truck. I am this very morning going to the dealer to figure some way out of this truck, I can't in all sincerity call it a truck because it doesn't behave like one so lets call it a "Forgotten On Reaility Day" which is to say the first day they put a price to this design. What FORD has done is no different than Microsoft releasing buggy software and having the public work through the issues by reporting the problems and then goung to their website for updates. Which makes sense with "1's & 0's" but its hard to up date a solid object. So DonFX4 don't be so hasty in dismissing us who are not having as much fun with our new Fords as you are

I fo to 3 other F150 forums and the same posts keep showing up at all of them. Somebody is doing cut and paste. Somebody is spreading their unhappiness around so and the problems are not as widespread as it appears.

2 things.

1. I agree with you. Two forums would be nice. One to report problems, and the other to discuss mods and upgrade. I too am more interested in mods.

2. I was hoping you could give me some insight or the way you leveled your truck, by dropping the rear. I may be intersested in doing the same thing. I replied to you in another thread about lowering the rear, but you must not have seen it. Can you help me out, before your out.

osbornk: Only forum I belong to and participate in is this one. I get a kick out of the "senior" users of this forum how positive a spin they reflect and how quickly they jump all over the negitive by calling it cut & paste bad news. What is it that was refered to when I fisrt started posting a "TROLL". If I was able I would give out my VIN# and you could go to a dealers puter and lookup the work on my unit. As far as wide spread prove it isn't. Again I say for the amount of problems in a small a group as this is I believe it is significant.

f 150 online.com is a bit more positive in my subjective view. Obviously teh sites are for info, so when people have problems anywhere they turn to the sites for help.

I've seen them all. This is BY FAR the best site on the web. All those people complaining are getting their trucks fixed because of this site (including myself). It's also bar none the best site for mod's, etc. My 2 cents - good luck.
