Rear Axle Noise

Continuing rear axle whine.....
Throwing in my 2 cents......
I purchased an '04 F150 4X4 in early June, 2004. Three weeks later, pulling the pontoon boat on an out of state vacation, the rear end started a severe vibration when making turns. Dealer replaced the clutch packs and haven't had a problem with the vibration since.
HOWEVER...almost immediatly after the clutch packs were replaced, the dreaded WHINING began. You first notice it at about 35-40mph. Some speeds worse than others. Have been back to dealer about 4 times over the last 6 months. They provided a copy of a bulletin from Ford dated late July, 2004 where Ford engineering advised local dealers to hold off on any other repairs for the whining until they could come up with a solution.
My patience has now worn out. How long is 'reasonable' in waiting for a fix. For goodness sakes, we aren't talking about having to redesign the fuel tanks for the space shuttle! In reading these posts, it looks like those with more persistence are getting results (squeaky wheel gets the grease!). I think I'll start with the service manager this upcoming week and go up from there.
Another note. Mine is a 373 rear end, truck manufactured in the Kansas City plant. For those with the whine problem, where was it manufactured?

My 04 FX4 SC has the same problem too...I also have 3.73 L/S rear.
I only have 3800 miles on mine, it chatteres and shakes very noticeably in turns, accellerating or not. (more prominent when its cold) I noticed it first with about 550 miles on it. I havnt noticed a whine, but I also put aftermarket exhaust on immediately too, so I may just not be able to hear it. Ill just have to see what they will do when I get it serviced I guess....

Maybe it is an improper break in period. The truck should have been driven for 1500-3000 miles before loading it heavy. Or maybe the diff fluid needs to be changed, the friction modifier could have broke down over time. Heat is a killer, those hot Arizona days combined with pulling heavy loads could possibly cause premature wear of the fluid.
Or maybe it is just a big pile of metal that was misbuilt from the factory.
Anywho, it does have nice seats.
How is the weather out there in the desert? Cold and rainy here.
Pretty cool site, I am putting it on my favorites at work. I'll check in from time to time.
Talk to ya later.
