Little things that help

Long time no post, my truck has recently reached about 94,000 miles on it (96 XLT with 302). I am replacing a blown header, fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, solenoid, and fan belt. Can anyone else recommend any other things to replace while I am in the mood for a quick fix-up? Also I was told that since I couldn't even remember the last time these items were replaced that there is a good chance I will probably gain back about 20 horsepower... is that true?

Oh yes...you will see a marked improvement if its been some time since all the "routine" stuff was done. The F/F will really regain some "Umph". They get really gummed up quicker than you'd expect. While you are getting the fuel and spark stuff cleaned and tweaked, might consider doing the same to the air-handling components; PCV valve, breather filter (in the bottom of the airbox),and air filter. If you are really looking for a thorough swab on the intake end of things, clean the throttle body assembly and IAC valve with throttle body cleaner. (Make sure the cleaner is suitable for throttle bodies an NOT just regular carb and choke cleaner). You WILL feel a difference.
