Holley Carb with AOD Tranny/T.V.
Hello, can anybody tell me the deal with the throttle valve cable hookup on an 84 F-150 351W/AOD Tranny? I just bought a Holley 4bbl carb on ebay that I plan to install on my truck. I was told that it has the ford A/T kickdown and that it will work on my truck. I am kind of confused about the throttle valve concept on this truck and wonder if I will have to buy some kind of adapter kit for the new carb. Currently, the tranny doesn't shift right. 2nd gear @ 25mph, 3rd @ 35mph, and OD @ 62mph. Honestly, I'm not even sure if all the linkage/tv is there or setup correctly because my haynes manual is very vague on the subject. All info will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't have a ton of info on this,
just bad experiences.
I have a 1992 T-bird that threw 2 AOD transmissions
due to incorrect T/V adustment. I thought it was BS, but
it was confirmed by a trans rebuilder, my mechanic and my
parts guy. The problem is, unlike an old vacuum modulator
which just made it shift weird, The T/V slides the trans in
and out of O/D. If the cable is incorrectly set, you WILL burn
up the O/D and then the rest of the trans. I personally don't
know anyone who performed your mod, so I don't know how to proceed.
Just beware that maladjustment can destroy your trans in under 100
miles. I'd recommend small adjustments, drive it, and keep adjusting
until it shifts at the right shift points. The important is the O/D,
because it can screw up without you really noticing it- trust me on
that one. Hope it all works out for you. --Paul
p.s. trans for that thing is $700.00+ for rebuild.
