Need info for hi-po 300-6

I am in the middle of a hi-po 300-6 build, and I am a little stuck. I want the longest rods possible, short, lightweight pistons, and an overall compression ratio of 8:1. What I need are engines with dimensionally similar rods, and pistons that would work with these. I am not afraid of minor machining, and I really don't care what the intended app for the parts is. They are going into a Ford, so that makes them Ford parts, right? Right. So, having said that, I have gotten this far. I believe that 240 rods, with Kieth Black 350 pistons will work together, but I don't know the height of this combination. Any help I can get on this would be, uh, helpful.

Hi,
I would try 240 rods first. I don't know how long they are but they are longer than the 300. Then you can see how much piston room you have left.
I would ask Clifford Performance too. He might have some good ideas and he has the parts for sure.

Ok, did some digging on another site, and came up with this: 240 rods, with KB-366 pistons. This produces 8.2:1 compression, long rod, and lightwieght overall package. What would be really nice is if someone made H or Forged I beam rods for the 240.

Jared,
I seem to remember when I was a kid (a LLOOOONNNNGGGG time ago), the local dirt track drivers running inline 240's (due to cubic in limits). As hard as they would turn them, they'd just about have to have some primo rods. Maybe they're out there, just gotta look in the right place. They don't race the inlines anymore locally, but someone, somewhere might.

Let me talk to some people on this one.

I'm just wondering, but why would the 240 rods be longer? If memory serves me correct the 300 has a 3.96" stroke and the 240 is shorter. Did someone have a typo or am I messed in the head? Let me know, thanks.

300 is 3.98", 240 is 3.18", both on the 10" deck height, the 240 needs longer rods so that the pistons come up to the top of the bores... This could have been accomplished with pistons that offset this difference(351M/400 have this relationship) but, the 240 has longer rods, and, uses 302 pistons.

I think this is what they are talking about. Definitely beyond the basics, but I think it is interesting and I wish I knew more about rod angles, bore to stroke ratios and all that stuff. You've gotten more responses to this than I ever thought you would. Not many people know much about sixes, including me.

Need info for hi-po 300-6

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-15-03 AT 04:45 PM (EST)]This is all for my turbo motor, and I figure, if I am going to build it, it might as well be done right. I am just applying an old hot-rod concept, increasing the rod ratio. A longer rod operates at less angularity, the piston dwells at TDC and BDC longer, the overall piston speed is slower, and more torque is produced, all while resisting detonation. I am running a stock cam, and two good-sized turbos, so I need the extra torque from the long rods, and I may even advance the cam for even more torque. I am building this thing for highway power, but I don't want a dog in town. To see what I am talking about with rod ratio, check out this site: www.grapeaperacing.com/grapeaperacing/tech/rodslength.cfm
Many good answers on this site, and tons of info.
