anyone swapped a big block into 80-86 4x4?

I'm no expert, but I'll try to help. L&L products probably has all the information and parts to help you. I'm sure you'll have to change the motor mounts, and flywheel with a manual transmission. You may need a larger radiator to cool the new motor.
L&L parts aren't cheap, but they are new, top of line parts shipped to your door. Sure beats searching the junk yards to worn out parts that may or may not be correct.

i did it i had a 84 f 150 w/300 6 4 speed 15 travel kit in front stock rear with over loads pulled and so 2 inch blocks i think. 35 " muds 3.55 gears in a 8.8 w/locker. pulled a 460 out of a 78 camper special (alot o miles ) put a early timing chain stealth manifold a 1850 holley (to small but ran good )high out put oil pump. order a c-6 from art carr with custom stall not shure wher it staled used a L&L kit (very nice product whould get it if you got the $$$) any way it whould smoke the tires in 1&2 and try to change directions on me pretty easy and still chirp the tires in 3 very fun to drive even showed a few cameros my tail light lol.

I just put a 460 in my 80 half ton shortbed.. it had a 351w. It was fairly strait forward except for the moter mounts and oil filter location. In the 80s, trucks had different cross members for the 460 compared to the small block and I6. You have to use a thread adapter off of a car 429, and you have to use a oil filter relocation kit. it's either that or notch out your frame... not a good Idea though. You can get motor mounts from L&L for about $100... hope this helps

The NP 435 will work just fine but finding a bellhousing will be hard I would recomend buyuing a bellhousing for an 84-86 F-250/350 that had a 460 and swapping to hydraulic clutch if you don't have it already. If you already have the bellhousing from the 70's truck and are sure that it is ffrom a 460 just use that with the mechanical clutch. I am doing the same thing right now and had to order an 86 F-350 bellhousing they are hard to find but worth the money you could also buy a whole kit from L&L not cheap though. Definitly use the L&L motor mounts though.

My truck originally had a C-6 automatic in it, and when I swapped the big block in, I used a NP 435 out of a half ton, and just used the bell housing off of the One ton four speed that was in the doner truck.. It worked out nicely since it was a hydraulic clutch and it was also an aluminum bell housing unstead of a cast iron one.
