It has been a great truck, up until a year ago. I had the tranny go out, and had to get a rebuilt put in. Then, a year later, just after warantee, the rebuilt went out while I was 4 wheeling. Shop said there was a gasket/spacer between the tranny and transfer case (?) that went out, and it caused the tranny to bind. Replaced a second time.
Now, the tranny leaks all the time, although not a lot, and the 4X4 select lever doesn't allow truck to fully engage in 4 low. They say that the Transfer case has problems inside.
My question:
Am I being taken for a ride? Did they neglect to fix a problem the first time, and it caused the second failure, and the new prblems, or can these things be independent problems?
Jeffery, they're probably not connected. I think you have an A4LD (if you have overdrive). They tend to heat up under severe off-roading; you might consider an add-on cooler and maybe going to synthetic fluid. If you have a lot of miles on truck, the plastic inserts on your transfer case shift fork are probably worn or broken off and this keeps it from fully engaging. This is also a common problem with these cases. Good luck.
