i know im kinda changing the subject but u guys seem to know carbs. i just got a 1406 edl. and new intake (edl) but when im at crusing speeds and punch it kinda sputters and then takes off not to much to worry about but just want to know if it is out of tune or what. it also seems to be right about when the secondaries would kick it too thanx for the help.

I would try moving the accelerator pump rod to a different hole on the lever and see if this helps. Also, Make sure that your vacuum advance is hooked up to the passengerside front port on the carb and is working. Also, check the initial timing. It should be around 10 to 12 BTDC.

If the choke is closing, you may just need to adjust the fast idle screw in a little bit until it touched the cam and opens the throttle a little bit. It is located on the back of the linkage.

There should be 3 holes where the top of the pump rod connects to the lever that pushes down the acc. pump.

Get a can of carb cleaner and spray the choke linkages real good. Might be a little dirty causing it to stick.

Turn the choke spring housing to increase the spring tension and see if it closes the choke valve. Might not be set rich enough or moving parts in the choke set up might be binding.
