You got to be pretty stupid driving a hurt truck around spewing out white smoke the whole time.
First thing I would have done when the truck started spewing out white smoke is shut it off and have it towed to a shop.
Also, how do you even consider the problem is the battery or the alternator when the motor is smoking out the tailpipe.
Red flags should have flew up and the destructuion of the engine was due in part to his own neglegence.
