need advice!!! home made suspension lift???
has anyone ever tried extending there shackles on the front leaf springs for a suspension lift? i built some "shackle extentions" dropping the leaf springs 4" below where they normally bolt up then a 3" block lift on the back, so far i just got done installing the "shackle extentions" on the front and trying to get some energy to finish it. just wondering if this is a good idea, an ok idea, or you dumb@$$ idea. btw i havent cut or welded anything to or from my truck so if this idea doesnt work i can always go back to stock.

Quick question, F250 or 350? My only real problem with what you are proposing is the lack of lateral support between the shackles. If you have an F350 why not something along the lines of a shackle reversal? Like this:
From Sky manufacturing. $300 for 3" lift.
They have many, many threads on this type of thing down in the off-road forum

I think that it is probably not a good idea to lengthen shackles, especially on a truck that heavy. Your are creating more torque on the shackles, frame, and bushings. It is also going to severely affect your steering geometry. I would definitely consider a manufactured lift or shackle reversing setup. Don't forget to get it aligned when you are done.
