Good Deal on PSD?

I am new to buying a PSD. I have found a 94 F-250 reg. cab with a 96 PSD in it. They want 3,500 for it. Is this a good deal? Also, do I realy need a PSD? I am in College right now. I only tow a Heavy trailer in the summers. In the winter I drive 100 miles to college once a month. My current truck is a 91 f-150 2wd. It is on it's last leg. I would love to replace it with the PSD. I am a huge Deisel fan and that is why I want the PSD. Any suggestins would be nice!

If the motor is in good shape mechanically it is worth around $5k.
Welcome to FTE
Mike

On edit: I think I should have clarified. The motor alone should be worth around $5k. With all else mechanically sound I would be willing to go upward of ~$7-8k depending on options, i.e. 4x4, xlt, etc.

I'm with Mike, if the motor runs well and the truck is in decent shape, that's a pretty good price. Just do some research and look around this forum. You'll find all the info you need.

I had a F-250 HD but It only got 8 mpg. It had 35's though. Had too sell it though. I can't stand my 2wd f-150 now. I did drive a IDI for 2 weeks before the tranny went out. I will try to get the milage and specs. Heres a pic:

I've done that before, had to pull our old grain truck (old Chevy C60, probably weighed around 10k#) out of the shop after everything burned down, including the truck and it's tires. Dropped the truck in 4-lo, dropped it in gear and it was already tuggin the truck out of the shed, through all the crap and everything from the fire. I was thoroughly impressed.
The PSD is an awesome towing motor, if the truck you're looking at is in good shape, and it's what you want, get it. Even if everything isn't perfect, the truck seems cheap enough for what you're getting that you can stand to spend a little money on it.
I'm graduating college this Saturday, got my diesel last fall, and will never turn back!!!

I am also in college and I wouldn't go back to anything other than a powerstroke. I bought a 97 for 11,000 and it was worth every penny. I do move a lot of hay and tractors and the summer and not even notice a trailer. I also drive almost two hours to school and I can make two round trips easy before I have to fill up. If the truck is in good shape go for it.

Thank you everyone for their help. unfortunatly I just called the owner and he had just sold it. Too bad. I will still continue to look for a new PSD. If anyone knows of a good deal talk to me. Thanx again!

Iowa Lakes Community College for Ag Production. Good program and better parties. I love it because the parking lot here is full of pickups, several strokers, and most have cb whips. My kind of campus!!!!!

I'm graduating from ISU this Saturday, I'm finally done after 4.5 years!!!!
I've been noticing a lot more of the new powerstrokes around campus here, but its still nothing like the community colleges. We still have WAY too many of them little rice burner wannabes driving around. I try to drive over them with my truck when I get the chance.

What are you graduating from? Know anyone from the Jefferson area? I have a few friends that are over there. Just thought I'd ask. By the way, sharp lookin truck in the gallery. I'll have some pics of mine in there after christmas break. Hopefully with the exhaust mods and tymar intake.
