I just bought a 2000 F 250 4X4 SD . I put about 3000 more miles since i bought it putting it at 121000. After you hit 15mph you feel a shake in the front and it gets worse as you speed up. You see the shacking in the dash and steering wheel. It feels like is is kinda bouncing back and fourth. At first that is all it did. Now when you hit about 40mph it makes an awful grinding noise. I am wondering how to tackle this problem?
Check all the front end components such as tie rod ends and all linkage ends as well as the steering damper. Check tires for cupping etc. Check ball joints and front bearings.
With 121000 miles on it I would suggest replacing the bearings not just checking them. I’ve had 2 vehicles a Ford Mustang and a Dodge Dakota that both developed strange vibrations / tire wear. After a lot of time and money trying to figure out the Mustang including visually inspecting the bearing which showed no signs of visible wear or damage. I finely just replaced them. Vibration eliminated.

I started with the bearings on the Dodge they looked ok but replaced them anyway when the Dodge showed signs of unusual tire wear. 10000 miles later no more unusual wear.
