bouncing ride on these concrete highways

i have a 2005 f250 cc long bed powerstroke. the short sections on these concrete highways at certain speeds make you bounce so bad you cant even talk without sounding like you are beating your chest. at 65 to 75 they are the worst here in vegas, if i go 75 to 85 its ok but i dont tow at the higher speeds, it is somewhat better with the 16,000lb 5th wheel but still uncomfortable. i was hoping the new front suspension on the 05 would be better than my 96 but its not. anybody found a shock or upgrade that will stop or greatly reduce the bouncing. tom in las vegas

I have read here in FTE about this exact problem. I believe Donahoe as he is known here, of Donahoe Racing (Edge supension systems) said the compression dampning on the shocks is too much and the stiff springs in the rear combined with the lack of weight in the rear create this problem. A shock with virtually no compresson dampning and some weight in the rear will help. For a more detailed explanation you can search the super duty threads or call Donahoe Racing, they will have a better explanation and possible solution for you. I have experienced the same problem here in northern California. I vary my speed to help stop this ocilation. Good luck!

Only caveat about the velvet rides is that they will drop the rear about 2 to 3 inches on some vehicles....

Have you considered Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks ?
They worked for me and my X !

Well your right, seems like a .5 to 1.5 inch drop, depends. Shocks are not going to change spring rates, the spring kick is what gives you the bounce.

I work with shocks, just my opinion though.

Maximum, how long are the stock shocks good for? What would you replace the originals with? I have a 2003 F250 SD XLT extended cab, 4x4 with 26,000 miles.

Now.....I work with racing shocks.....

Stock, depends on how you treat your truck. Most people change OEM shocks when the fluid runs out or they plain fall off.

Rancho RS 5000 is fine. The adjustable shocks would be more prone to problems compounded by the owner trying to correct a problem with valves. Remote reservoir shocks are for high temp (duty cycles) types.

i went to the velvet shackle site and they did say it will lower the rear under no load, i use a 5th wheel with about 2300lbs tongue wt and it makes the truck sit level, do you know if this lowering of the rear end empty will also mean lower when the 5th wheel is on, i dont want a 3 inch rear rake when towing, thanks, tom

I have no experience with Velvet. Give them a call and voice your concern on ride height. What is happening is the spring is unloaded and not compressing because of the GVW on your truck. A one ton or ¾ will ride rough on occasion with the described road condition you have. What you can do is try the Velvet Ride system to change how the shackle arc will respond to the slight movement giving you less up kick.

When your trailer is being pulled, pin location will help. Try moving the load forward of the centerline of the rear axle. I run 2 inches ahead of the axle center line.

I know exactly the road your talking about.....used to have one around here untill they fixed it.

Will that drop happen on a DRW 05?

Create a problem, sovle a problem, create another problem.....get the idea

Only option you have is keep your false teeth on the dash untill you clear that section of highway......even in an air ride it creates jar......

I changed my 2004 psd crew shocks at 6,000 to Bilstein heavy duty shocks. They greatly improved the ride and handling. Corners alot better now also.

Most shock companies are better than stock. I changed mine when I bought the truck.

Tom in LV- I asked this question a little while ago and tried everything people recommended except for another set of shocks, since I couldn't justify dropping a bunch of money on another set of new shocks that would hurt performance elsewhere. I put 2 tons worth of lead pigs in the bed, changed lanes and slowed down, etc. The only thing that seemed to work was slow down and change lanes. Unfortunately this resulted in another problem. People in So.Cal. apparently think your retarded if you have Texas plates and you're not going 80mph in the slow lane and will offer you helpful suggestions. How procreating with myself will help my speed I have no Idea. Here is the thread for the original post.
