Cure for poor fuel economy?

I know I bought a Truck, and I know backing off the pedal will better my mileage. For those that have had a REAL problem, has anyone
been satisfied with a fuel economy increase by repair? 11.6 mpg is not good in my book. I have had the truck in the shop twice and they keep telling me my truck is "in spec". Pretty broad "spec" if you ask me. I would like to crawl from bottom spec to the spec summit if you know what I mean. Anyone tell me if they had satisfactory repairs, and how they obtained them?

All I know is that is NOT normal, you should be getting around 14 city and about 18 highway. Unless you drive like a mad man and 11mpg would make sence. If I were you, I'd take it to another Ford Dealer and see what they can do for you, 11mpg just doesn't sound right and I drive my truck very hard and I still do better on gass then you do. Goodluck!!

At 6100 miles it has been serviced twice, oil filters...ect. All done by ford. I did have a rather exceptional tank last summer. 100% freeway on a whole tank reasonably driven = 14mpg.

I have 2,300 miles on mine (5.4, 3.55 rear) and I am only getting 13mpg tops. This is 40% city, 60% highway. If it doesn't get better by oil change time, I will ask about the reflash.

Got about 1500 miles on an 05 Lariat and I'm getting about 15mpg. I drive about average, not a lead foot but not a ***** foot either. Seems about right to me.

I average just over 15mpg mixed city/fwy driving.

I keep a spreadsheet of my fuel economy. Here is a link if you're interested... http://users.adelphia.net/~bamorris2

At 3500 miles I've been averaging about 16 mpg over all the tankfuls. I had it serviced and they reflashed it. Might be another 1mpg better

how are your roads? hills will make your miliage drop like rocks. i do great when i drive in arizona but back home in san diego i can get 12 if i drive slooow. mines been steadily going up since i got over 10K on it now.

you can get lighter wheels, driveshafts, brake rotors etc.

First tank 14, second 16 (lots of highway) and last tank 15 or so. I have 2k miles. I am also running a diablo predator, which should increase MPG a bit, depending on how well I keep off the gas pedal!

04 scab 3.73 FX4 4X4 average 14.5 mpg 75% highway driving. For the most part not a lead foot. I sure would like to get 18 or so like some of you are getting.

Hey bamorris22 , nice spreadsheet. You did a great job on keeping all your records. By the way, i think it's interesting how your mileage increased that much with an exhaust.

It seams to me that it is a combination of a lot of things that effects you mileage. A truck with exhaust, air filter, bed cover, supertunner, lower elevation, and a light foot will deffinatly get better milage than a city truck with a heavy foot and stock configuration at high altitude. I think that the data posted by bamorris22 is perfect for showing how it can help.

I don't see any significant increase after the exhaust was added.
