a friend of mine has a 4.6l '04 f-150 and he hooked up si/do Delta Flow Flowmasters to his truck. Damn near no resonance and is decently loud but not annoying and not a whole lot of sound. Sounds pretty impresive when it's reved though...i would want a little bit louder than his truck, personally. Maybe u should go w/ original 40 series

hey bigmike,

i have a 5.4l, just put on a original 40 series flowmaster($60) at A&A auto. had a local muffler shop cut off my stock and put on the flow using stock pipes. just added a small piece at end of muffler to tie into the tailpipe. $47 for the work, then bought a K&N replacement filter at autozone for another $40. Love the sound, you can hear inside the truck, but not overwhelming and good rumble outside. also told that it will get louder around a 1,000 miles, when it "breaks in". not sure if the 4.6l is the same size, but my muffler is 2.5" in and out, and used center in and center out. good luck!!!

I have read Magnaflow makes the best power-wise exhaust. Their dyno test show no drop in low-end torque unlike most others. That's what i am going for in my 2002 4.6.

I have a 2000 F150 4x4 and just received dual ehaust for Christmas. My wife and Brother-in-law played a joke on me and said that my valves were clattering real bad and I may not make it home when I picked up my truck (my brother-in-law had it a few days). I got so sick @ the thought of having to have engine work done I couldn't even eat. Come to think of it I owe them one. Anyway it is true duals with 2 Flowmaster super 40 mufflers with 3" exhaust pipe from the muffler's to the 3.5" chrome tips. I never thought of it being against the law for being to loud. It probably is though (what isn't against the law these days). Who cares if it is anyway (except the cop writing the ticket). I love the exhaust. It is just how I wanted it to sound. If i can get a sound clip I will post it in my gallery. I say go with what ever makes you happy. If you don't you wont be happy. I can't wait for it to break in. Good luck on your project.
