5.4L aftermarket air intake.

I'm not talking about the intake manifold.....just the air intake line. Do any of the products such as AirAid give any noticeable improvement in performance?

It'd seem like a straight shot into the throttle body would be better than having the airstream make three 90 degree turns before it hits the throttle body. I've seen some advertised claims of up to an 18 HP increase, just by changing the air intake, and up to 12 HP by adding a 1" helix spacer. Seems a bit too good to be true.

Also... On the stock air intake, does the portion of the intake that sits over the top of the radiator serve any purpose?

Thanks.

Airraid actually claims a really high increase in power. They were supposedly claiming like 38 hp, but I have had a few of them installed at my shop and they didn't make that much of an increase. The one that I have found the best increase in is the K&N. This one actually has like a throttle body spacer in the kit. Plus the Airraid actually has had some problems with DTC codes. They are in some vehicles making the computer say lean.

I think the part over your radiator is a baffle to quiet the air noice. I have an Airaid on my 4.6 liter, and it's a lot louder under throttle, but i did pick a few ponies by my butt-dyno at least...

As with most after market mods the advertised increase in HP is over rated. IMHO. When I installed my Volant, I noticed a slight increase in mid to upper range HP. I did pick up 1 MPG better fuel milage. I was more exited about that. lol
