New to NJ

Hi guys,
Just moved To Bayonne From Richmond Virginia and I need help in finding a few things. Back home we had self service junkyards, where you pay a dollar to get in and you get to go and pick your own parts. There were 2 really big ones near the city and I really would like to find one up here, as my 1979 F100 needs lots of little parts.

Also, Anyone know of a reputible mechanic in the area. I need some exaust work done and a state inspection and I dont want to get hosed.

Thanks alot, I am looking foward to getting to know a few of ya'll.

Bayonne....North, maybe Central Jersey? Not sure. There's a few yards down here in SJ.

I know of a few that I used to goto in Avanel and Rahway that had some good stuff (truck parts and older car parts). Also, there is one in Pembrook (spelling?) that is self-serve as well.

There is only one yard in Rahway, called T&E Motors that allows U-Pull-It types like us. I'm there quite a bit, since its very local (I live one town over).

Pinebrook is the other yard youre thinking off, that's off 46 almost where it crosses route 46, that's a fairly large yard actually, though lately I haven't seen too many full size trucks in there...

For quick things, or onesy/twosy items, I'll go to either one of those yards, but for larger selection I make the haul about 2 hours into PA to one of Harry's U-Pull-its. I never come back empty handed, and their prices are fairly reasonable.

Lightbulb New to New Jersey

JoeBlow,

I've lived here most of my life, left for a few years in the 80's, but I don't know of any junk yards where you can pick your own parts. But, across Newark Bay from Bayonne, you'll find more junkyards than anywhere else. Many are on Avenue "P" and on Wilson Ave and Delancey Street. You walk in, tell them what you want, and if they don't have it on hand, they'll get it for you in 24 hours. You need a phone book that covers Essex County (Newark). There's a ba-zillion junkyards in the meadows in Newark. You might just want to go there.

From Bayonne take Route 440 North until it hits Truck Route 1 & 9 (US). Turn left and head South over the Two Bridges (first bridge takes you from Jersey City into South Kearny, Second bridge takes you from South Kearny into Newark). When you see the signs for the NJ Turnpike you'll also see signs for Delancey Street. I'll have to look at a map to get you from Delancey to Avenue "P" (used to be "pink slip" racing on Saturday nights) and Wilson Avenue.

I'll get back to you.- heatmon
