what is this Electrical plug?

on my 75, i've got a plug that pokes out of my wiring that runs from the front to the rear of the truck. its right in the center of the truck, where the bed and the cab come together. i can't even begin to imagine what this thing could be, it's just kina stuck there. is this something that is suppose to be there? and what is it suppose to be plugged into? kina looks like it might go to the transfercase but i can't see how but its the only thing there.

Some of the trucks had an indicator that said if the truck was in 4 x 4, but I don't know if it was that year. You sure it's not a camper plug for lights etc.?

I bet your truck has a single tank and that single tank is back behind the rear axle. If so, I am also willing to be that the connector that you mentioned is for the second fuel tank that would have gone in the middle of the truck.

Could it be for the electric fuel tank switch? On dual tank trucks, that switch was mounted under the cab outside the frame on the driver side floor near the rear of the cab.

What does the plug look like? Is it round with one wire going to it?
If so thats the fuel tank Selector switch plug. Some were up there and some were back by the rear tank.

well, my truck only has the in cab tank. there never was (at least there is no evidence of) another tank in the truck. the plug looks like it comes out of what it plugs into from the side, sort of like a little turret. the end of the plug is round but i dont remember how many wires go to the plug offhand but i'll take a picture and post it next time i'm at home.
thanks guys

well, after having a few thoughts about information you guys have stated, the plug is where the second tank would be if i had that option. but, like i said, ill take a picture of it and post it in my gallery.

Usually, The midship tank is the aux, the rearward tank (above the axle) is the main tank.

the bed tank on a highboy is the main tank? i dont know if im reading that right, but i thought the only 2 tanks on highboys were the cab tank and the one at the front of the bed, the one in the cab being the standard one.
