Changed all the plugs to-day on a 4.6 98.except #!!!!!!4. Everthing went ok till I tried to pull the boot on #4. It will not come out. I distroyed the upper rubber and have left the wire and lower boot. With only the room of a !!!!!! I can't even pull out the wire.I have used a small screw driver to pry on the remaining boot and my next step is to put a comealong on the wire to pull it out.
It was running really rough before I started but so far only #1 was oily and looked sick. The rest were white and well worn. I can't wait to see #4 if I can get it out.
Any ideas
I soaked the plug wire were it goes into the spark plug hole with penetraning lube and let it soak for an hour. One little tug and out came the wire. The boot was still in there. I used a 3/8th lag bolt, scewed it into the boot and out popped the remaining rubber.
The plug came out pretty easy after an assortment of extensions. Put in the new plug and new wire,$29.30CDN at Ford and started it up. After warm up it runs great.
Getting the proper toque 13ft on the #4 is pretty hard with the 3 to 4 extensions and swivel, so was only able to snug it up tight. Hopefully it's enough.
