F series started out as F1, F2 etc. Then it went to F100, F250, F350. F150's were rated a little over the F100 when they were both being sold, but they were both half ton. If everything else is a '50, it makes more sense for the base to be F150 vs. F100. Sort of.
The F series was conventional cab, the number related to load rating.
I means the same thing as C 1500 on a Chev or D100 on a Dodge...
