Excessive smoke on new longblock?

Hi,
I had someone try to repair an oil leak on my old engine, and they tore it up, so I had to get a longblock installed in my truck. I have to say, it has a bit more power than my tired old block with 230k on it, but it really smokes a lot on startup - way more than my old engine ever did. I live in Texas, and it dosen't get too cold here compared to many other places. My truck puts out an embarrasingly amount of smoke for about 1 minute after startup. I am also experiencing what I think is excessive oil consumption - 2.5 GALLONS in 1000 miles.. Is this break in stuff, or is something really wrong?? There are no leaks on the driveway.. No oil is leaking top or bottom of the engine, that I can see..

Again - thanks in advance - you guys are a wealth of knowledge!!

New injectors/o-rings? I would hate to think that the rings/cylinders are bad, but hey, anything is possible...

I would also say that it is injector o rings. Did they use your old injectors or are they new?

1200 mi is not enough to seat rings yet. Do you see any smoke while driving down the road after warm up? Also what was done to the top end?

Hi -
After the engine is warm, I see no smoke. They used my old injectors, but everything down is new (valve train down to the oil pan). They put new o-rings on the injectors, tested them, and replaced one.

That's a lot of oil usage even for a new engine. Even 2.5 quarts to me is excessive in only 1000 miles let alone gallons of oil. I would get some assurances in writing before the warrenty expires.

I have a small oil leak on my truck and I barely use 2 quarts every 4,000 miles. 2.5 gallons would cost a buttload with my driving. If the engine has a warranty I would take it back and tell them to fix it. That's nuts to think that you use that much oil. I bet the parts stores love it.

Well, I do have a warranty, and they have agreed to take it in and replace the injector o-rings. Hopefully this takes care of the issue. This is why I contracted out to a guy on the side to fix an oil leak in the first place.. I don't want to have to add oil on a daily basis...

Thanks again!
Mike
