I had my '99 PSD CC in four wheel drive yesterday for the first time in about 6 months. After unlocking the hubs and shifting it back into 2 wheel my 4x4 light didn't go out. I sure that I'm out of 4 wheel drive and I'm assuming that the switch is just stuck. Anyone know where the switch is located? Which side of the transmission / transfer case? I have to take a trip on the interstate and I would feel so much better having the idiot light.
its probably just the switch if it has manual hubs my wifes truck did it last week and it went for two days and went off and now it works just fine. the electrical part of the switch is on the outside of the drivers side of the t case i was gonna pull it apart and clean it but its working fine now
Thanks Barebackjake, Yes it has manual hubs. This is what I'm thinking is going on too. Still don't like that fact that it is on. I guess that is why they call them idiot lights.
yeah if the one on my wifes truck does it again i will do something about it b ut it fixed itself this time. since it didnt get used often this year dosnt surprize my that it stuck but its been in 4wd 5 times since and hasnt done it anymore i guess it just needed to br broken loose
Tapped on the switch but no luck. If I unplug the switch it goes out but I guess I will just let it stay on and see if I get lucky like barebackjake. If not it doesn't look like it should be that big of a deal replacing it.
I'd pull the switch out and free it up. Normally, the mechanical part of the switch consists of a ball bearing with a spring behind it. VERY simple.
I've got to investigate mine myself, my 4x4 light doesn't work, but my low range one does.

Talked the the stealership and the switch is $31 dollars. So is the switch mechanical or is it activated by psi? My thought is if it is mechanical like a spring and ball I might be able to free it up but if it uses psi than probably it is all enteranl and wouldn't be able to do anything to it. Just a question to throw out there since I have never pulled on out and looked at it.
Got the new switch installed. It was as described earlier a steel ball with a spring behind it. My old one wasn't stuck it just didn't work anymore. Unscrewed the old one (after unplugging the wire harness) and screwed in the new. Light works fine now.
