Little Transmission Help Plz

I have an 02 Ranger, 3.0, I recently removed the 4r44E trans after the motor let go under 17psi of boost. While the trans was out we installed a shift kit, oversized servos, & did a visiual inspection on the trans as far as wear on any components, and installed a new higher stall convertor. Everything looked good in the trans & prior to the motor letting go the thing shifted like new & had no problems, Fluid has been changed at recomended service & was very clean at the time the motor blew, There was hardly any fines in the pan & very clean. Now after the above install items I am getting the OD flashing light, we read the codes with a scanner & they are 735 & 741. From test drives the truck will not lock up the convertor, OD seems to function normal as I can toggle the OD button & the transmission drops in & out of OD, like it should, No slippage in any gear, all gears engage quickly as they should & all shifts are nice & firm with no flares or anything odd. It does not palce itself in limp mode either when the light starts flashing. If you dirve the truck below 50 mph the light will stay off. Locking up the convertor seems to be my only problem. I have also called the convertor manufacturer to verify that they did send me a lockup convertor.

Any help with the 735 & 741 codes & diagnosis will be greatly appreciated.
I do have the TSG manual but have not been able to pinpoint the direction to go in solving this issue.

Sorry for the long post just want to give you guys as much info as possible to help solve this

Thanks in advance

Welcome to FTE. What was the response from the converter manufacturer? I don't know what the codes mean, but the symptoms still suggest that lockup is not occurring. Is there an electrical connection that was over looked when you reassembled the transmission?

Thank You, The convertor mfg verified I did have a lock up converter. Were getting ready to pull the pan again but I am quite sure everything is plugged in like it should be. At least the last time we had the pan out I installed a drain plug, so should not get a transmission fluid shower this time.

Found the following info that references the "741" code:

"Also when the light is out and I press the OD button I feel it working as it did when I bought the truck new. This flashing continued so I had the code P0741 pulled from the computer. Since there was no driveability problem, I flushed the transmission through the radiator transmission cooler and installed a TCC electronic solenoid and a new filter and gasket. I road tested the vehicle and it shifted great as before and then the OD light started flashing again. Any suggestion?" (Info and question provided by a writer.)

The reply: "A. Ford has issued a TSB on this problem. It has to do with a transmission oil pump defect and repair procedure.
Article No.: 97-22-4 Date: 10/27/97 Transmission - A4LD, 4R44E/4R55E, 5R55E - Torque Converter Slip - Diagnostic Trouble Code (Dtc) 628 Or P0741 Stored In Memory" (Quoted from another source.)

Note the references to "TCC electronic solenoid" and TSB 97-22-4. Each of those are worth looking in to as possible solutions to your problem. Certainly, if the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) solenoid is not powered or not working, that would prevent going into lock-up.

Also try a Google search for code 735. It will turn up more info on the TCC solenoid. It looks like that is where the problem lies.
