off road diesel and on road diesel prices

here in north carolina i stopped the other day to fill up and i noticed that on road diesel was $2.09. then i noticed that off road diesel was selling for $2.01. now the normal price everywhere else is around $1.79 for offroad. what gives here. i thought that there was a bigger tax break than 8 cents.

The amount of road tax will vary widely between different jurisdictions. It should be consistent within a given taxable area, though. I haven't got a clue as to why it would be different at that one station.

Here in WV I think the road tax is .46 cents across the state. You will see some diff. in offroad prices just like on road fuel. Sounds like someone is gouging the consumer.

I'm pretty sure NC always has cheaper fuel because of cheaper taxes. Just like MO has way cheaper fuel than KS, and NE has way more expensive fuel than KS. With a lower tax, less of a diff between off/on road fuel.

Hey moose , you want to talk about greedy , I saw an artical on the news last week that Kalifornia is thinking of charging motorists a "mile tax" , that is ...you will have to have a recorder ( which you pay for ) installed in your vehicle to record all miles driven then reported to the state and then billed to you . Why ? because the state of Kalifornia is loosing money ( thier story ) on the fuel/gas tax because of cars and trucks getting better mileage !

Dont get it for your truck if you go through those checkpoints, youll get fined around 4 grand at least if they catch you with it.

Is there a difference in the fuel? How would they know if you were running it? I have never heard of these checkpoints, either.. I wonder if they have this in Texas..?? I would assume they do, if the offroad diesel is meant for farms, etc.

wow, never have heard of the sniffer, I have yet to be pulled over, but I think mainly because I travel at night, and the trailer I pull is either has my cobra on it, or is an enclosed pullin tractor trailer, most just wave me bye, since its not a stock trailer. I will have to watch out for that. I have to blend the red during the winter anyways, darn summer blends
