360 timing

on setting timing chain on 360 when the dots are lined up should #1 piston be top dead center

top dead center of the compresson stroke and the dots need to line up

Yes and the dowel on the cam and the key on the crank should both be at 12:00. When installing the gears and chain the cam gear should have the dot down at 6:00 and the crank gear dot up at 12:00.
