I'am going to purchase new coil's for my truck (1976 F-100, 360 2wd) when i redo the bushings this winter. I went to a parts shop and priced coils. The constant rate coils are 100 dollars canadian, while the variable coils are 200 cdn dollars. The parts guy said that the variable rate that has varying spacing distance between the coils and gives a superior ride.
So my question is how much better is the ride with the variable over the constant and is it worth the extra 100 dollars? I am willing, although relutantly, to spend the extra cash if it is worth it.
The truck is simply used as my summer driver, does not pull extreme amounts or that often. I just want a good handling/driving truck.
I have seen many people who went with the variable coil and they all ended up with the same problem. The top few coils are whats different but what happens is they end up drooping or in other words all the variable coils end up sitting on top of eachother negating the variable effect.
Wish I knew of a set that actually worked.
I've been using MOOG steering/suspension parts for years with no problems. There variable-rate springs are called cargo-coil.But with what you do with truck, just replace with regular springs.
