replacing a sohc with a dohc what works?

ok i know this isn't "truck related" but bear with me please. i just bought a 95 merc cougar xr7 with a blown 4.6 the guy swore up n down its a dohc but on the plastic cover it just says 4.6 ohc. (is there any chance it could be a dohc?) but any ways ive founds a motor out of a 98 lincoln cont. dohc but front wheel drive. will this fit? oil pan, manifolds. or will i beable to use those off the sohc engine? and how about acc? also will i beable to use the same computer

yes it will same block but if u gonna do engine swap get the 03-04 cobra engine forged internals. more potential and engine lasts longer. but yeh the dhc and sohc block is same just the heads are different. u can take the 4.6L sohc put dohc heads on easy swap its become a common mod for and extra 60 bolt on HP

so your saying i can take the 98 dohc engine out of a lincoln cont. and put it in the cougar. use the parts of the sohc (oil pan. possibly intake, exuast manifolds...) and the same computer?

computer no u can have it reflashed at a dealership if u got friends there. but engine compartments in fords are all universal only difference is tranny clearance. u cant actualy take a 6.0L power stoke and put it in a crownvic. only reason its difficult is taller hood and transmission mouting. the do make V10 interceptors though

Usually a Front wheel drive block( like in a Continental) is different from a rear wheel drive block. The motor mount holes are in different spots.

I believe that you would also have to change the internals of the block too, pistons, crank etc.
