I am thinking about changing the rearend on my F150.
I didn't look that the number, yet. But it is not geared for the hiway. My engine is screaming at 65 mph.
I can wait until something comes up at the wreckin yard. But I am not sure if I can do this one. I really don't want to mess with the springs. The guys at work say there's just four bolts and that it's easy.
Also, what is a good choice for hiway and work, still hope to tow 3500#.
Im guessing that you have a 9" rear end? If you have a 9 inch then you could just change out the center section to a different gear ratio. You might get a better reply to this in the Clutch, Transmission, Differential, Axle and Transfer Case forum. This is for the Inline Six.
I stand corrected, I just remembered when I changed my 9'' I was going to change just the center-carrier and I found that the axles were different spline. had to swap the whole unit. also had to grind the tabs off of the yoke to make the u-joint fit. I know I could have changed the yokes out but that nut has a tremendous amount of torque on it, around 200ftlbs. I think, so I just ground off those little retainer tabs to see if it would work. that was over 2 years ago and haven't had any problems.
