I take mine to a local Valvoline place. I thought that they were obligated to take coolant, oil, etc. I'd call around, you'll find one that will take it. You can also try the county waste disposal. They tend to be good about taking old fluids.

I take it to the county eco-site, they take batteries, oil, scrap steel, copper, pop cans, flourescent tubes, phone books, ect.

Believe it or not some people think coolant is too expensive and will reuse your old coolant. I personally change mine every year (personal preference) but I have had people ask me for my old coolant from newly bought used vehicles. Their is no telling how ancient that coolant was.

Red face

When he was still driving, my dad would take the antifreeze that came out of my Oldsmobile, and Ford, and mix it up and install it in his Olds Cutlass. I've always changed the coolant every fall, and my Olds, an '85, still has its original radiator. My dads car was running just fine when I sold it last summer.

I would never recycle coolant this way. Think of all the nasty stuff that comes out of the engine, not to mention old, weak, anti-corrosion agents.

Reusing coolant imo is not smart either. The way I look at it pay a little now or much more later. But if somone ask me for my year old coolant I will let them have it. It is not going in my vehicle. Plus if I dont give it to them they will get it from someone else (who probably waited five years or longer). I wish everyone would flush there radiator every year and use new coolant, but they are entitled to their on choice.

DT didn't ask for your maintenance schedual on coolant but how to get rid of it. I flush mine down the toilet. Better than others who dump coolant and oil in empty fields or job sites.

Boy, I'll bet the guys at the sewer pond just love "Beemer Nut." That stuff ought to slow down their decomposition process by at least a couple of weeks.

Anti-freeze becomes nondetectable mixed over millions of gallions of waste. Non soluble like motor oil, dirt, tomato seeds, condoms, tampons, plastic wrap, draino, cooking oil, grease and laytex paint from home owners cause way the heck more problems at a treatment plant. I Know as I asked many times when I worked as a plant electrician. Now if every home owner flushed a gallon a day that would cause a problem.

I know tomato seeds are a problem. I new a guy who worked at a waste treament plant and he said the place gets thick with tomato plants. I can see where oil would be a major problem because it is not water soluble.

I didn't want people to think i'm a jerk at flushing freeze or causing a flame war, that was recommended by engineers and techs as I like to ask questions.
I live in the S.F. bay (Alameda) and see rainbow from road oil washing into storm drains, turned in people who dump used oil into the same. Kayak the bay, seen a few marinas that wash sanded anti-foul paint into the bay at night, big no no.
