this years hunt
Haven't been out yet this year. I am leaving tomorrow for the western end of the UP. I'm wondering what effect, if any, the full moon has on the behaviour of the deer ?Guess I'll find out when I get there. Baraga county is where I'm headed, close to Skanee. There were lots of deer out last year. If I don't get one there, I'll try muzzle loader season down in the lower. DF, @ his Dad's house

I love to hunt that part of the state the rut is winding down here in northern lower. Shoud be great hunting up there as the cold weather is coming look for the oaks or clear cuts they were loaded with acorns here. My hunting partner saw a 10 point and a spike opening day got buck fever ended up shooting a 4 point on third day i shot a 3 point opening day am now hunting for at least 4 point on one side. Getting ready to head out this morning. I hunt on state land and was pleasantly surprised the last two years no doe permits before that everybody got one the buck to doe ratio is a lot better now. I hunt around Gwinn in upper You need some cold weather Good luck wish i was up there right now.

less deer ?
Guys, it does seem like there are fewer deer in this (western up ) area than when I was here 3 years ago. But the state must think there are enough, cause they had sold some doe tags, and we had one. We watched for a few days and the bucks are either far more cautious or have already been shot . But there were a fair amount of does, so we ttook the biggest fattest one we could get. Our hope is that we got one that was too old to produce any more fawns. It was about 200 lbs before field dressing. It took some real work to haul it out of the brush tangle it had run to. The fellow helping me is 6'3" and about 285, I'm 5'10" and 245, but it was a real workout for us to pull her out of the tangle and uphill abit to where we gutted. Thankfully, there was about 8 inches of snow on the ground. After the field work, we put her on a plastic sheet and dragged back to camp. The plastic slid over the snow very well. I am going to take one of these sheets every year. I can still look for some bucks down in the lower, during late firearm or muzzle season. DinosaurFan
