Unhappy 7.3 won't start after high pressure pump re-seal

I just resealed the high pressure oil pump on my '99 F250 that was leaking. 'Pretty simple job but I can't get the truck started now.

Rather that running the starter for a long time, is there a simple way to bleed the system of air?

I'm assuming that is the problem and have already used the water drain to clear it that far.

what do you mean resealed? Just installed a new gasket or removed the plugs and installed new o-rings?

I replaced the gaskets and o-rings on the oil pump.

With the key on now, I can clearly hear air gurgline through the fuel pump (not oil pump) and assume that is the culprit.

While I really appreciate your help, my only question is:

"How do you bleed air from the fuel system".

Try filling your fuel filter housing with fuel. It should run on it if you fill it up. If you fill it and it does not start look at something else. If you can get a scanner check your hpop pressure while cranking. You need 500 psi before it will fire the injectors.

I have ran the fuel tank empty before and all I did when I put more fuel in the tank was cycle the key a few times and it started up with no problems.

Red face

*Thanks for all of your help.

I cracked open the fuel line at the filter and cleared the air there. It's running well now but I'm still chasing the leak.

Do you mean an oil leak or a leak in the fuel line?

It is an oil leak. I had some oil showing up on the bottom of the HPOP that eventually filled the valley and worked it's way to the back of the motor.

I replaced the steel gasket between the engine and HPOP thinking that was the trouble - it wasn't.

If I reach under and feel the bottom of the pump after it's been running, I come up with a few new drops of oil.

Could be an o-ring on the hpop. Theres a few on it. Just did the ipr in mine and there is a few plugs and such on it. Also did you check the condition of your hpop resvoir gasket. Just some posibilties

Thanks lancer. I did replace the resevoir gasket at the same time but it didn't seem to help much.

I'll be looking at the other seals in the a.m.
