My '91 Explorer Will Not Start In Cold Weather. I Have A Brand New Battery. All Summer I Had No Problems And Now It Has Gotten Cold When I Went Out To Start It , It Wouldn't Even Turn Over I Had To Jump It. So I Did This For About A Week, If I Disconnect The Battery Every Nightand In The Morning Reconnect It And It Fires Right Up. Help!!!thank You
Is the battery discharging overnight? If so, check for something that sticking on. Fuel pumps seem to commonly do this, though there are many possibilities.
The way to diagnose this is:
1) hook up an ammeter or test light in between a battery post and the battery cable. Now, whenever anything is drawing a significant amount of current, you can see it. Leave the key off.
2) Open the power distribution box so you have access to the fuses. Pull the fuses one at a time until the test light turns off/ ammeter goes well below 1 A. Now you know which circuit is discharging your battery.
