Door tension/Steering stabilizer

I have two things I want to do to my 89. The drivers door does not hold itslef open on even the smallest of inclines. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
I also would like to know the reasons/benifits to install a steering stabilizer.

I belive the correct fix for the door is to replace the upper hinge, however I repaired mine by inserting an 1/4 in drive deepwell 1/4 in snap-on socket behind the spring stop
on the upper hinge. As for the steering stabilizer it can provide added control if a front tire blows and if you have oversized tires and hit a pothole the steering can get violent. a stabilizer will reduce this effect considerably
