Hope this is not too stupid

I am looking at a great deal on a 95 PSD with 50K on a rebuilt engine. Just trying to do some homework. I have a 351 gas now and know how to tune up and fix it. I know nothing about diesel engines though. What differs in the routine maintenance in this engine? I know they have a bigger oil capacity and I think that you need to change the fuel filter often, and the block heater. How often do teh glow plugs need to be changed? What else should I take into consideration???

Any help always appreciated

Thanks
Chris

fuel filter about every 15,000 miles $20-$30
oil change every 5000 15 quarts of oil
coolant additive every 15,000 $6-$8
glowplugs should go 100,000 miles+
block heater-??? never heard of one going out
trans every 30,000 miles(pretty standard)

Pretty standard......unless it's a stick shift. LOL

I change my pretty standard transmission fluid every 75,000 miles, along with the transfer case and differentials.

Yes absolutly and in doing so that's about all you'll have to replace on the gearboxs. Nothing more.

If it's an auto drive it a lot before you buy. The E4OD is not happy even behind a stock PSD. Also ask for maintence records, especally for the trans. If it slips, shudders, the torque converter doesn't lock smooth and quick or the fluid is burnt, walk away. If I were looking at it I would also want to know what went wrong with the first motor.

Sorry forgot to say that it is a stick. The first engine lost the #1 cylinder @ 200K. I work for a home builder and the truck belongs to my excavator so I trust him not to screw me on the deal. The good price is only for me because of the relationship.

psdpower your in Forest Hill or BelAir right?? Maybe I could bring it close to you to look at. The truck is in Fallston.
