This past weekend, my son borrowed the car, and while driving down the highway, the tranny lines in the radiator, obviously broke, and coolant went into the tranny, and tranny fluid into the radiator...My questions are as follows...What is the best way to flush the transmission, and is there a product out there that is safe to use in it to flush it...I bought 4 gallons of fluid, thinking I can run the fluid out, fill it up, run it out again, and so on until the fluid runs clear...right now it is a deep cloudy red...The tranny is shifting fine now that the fluid is darker, but it isn't completely clear yet...Any suggestions on this would be a help! Thanks in advance!

 

Well I would prolly just go with a aftermartket trans cooler,prolly cheaper than replacing the radiator.As far as flushing the trans is it a 3spd or 4spd? The old c-3 take alot of abuse.If it was my car I would prolly just change the fluid a few times.The problem is the antifreeze not so much the water it tends to evaporate with time and heat.But would change out the fuild a few times till it stays the same color. Even if you would have it flushed by a garage it still won't be all out of all the passages valve body and actuators.Just takes time and changes.

 

we have a after market trans cooler now, the car wouldnt move when the water got in it and it was only run about 3 miles down hill, after changing the fluid 4 times so far it drives tranny works great, i just dont want to hurt, the tranny is a 4 speed auto so would it be ok to run it if the tranny fluid is not red all the way, untill i change it a few more times, thanks for the help

 

Yea if you changed it a few times already drive it a while and drop it one last time.You will know when it is all gone cause it will stay the same color.

 

I just kept pouring new fluid in the fill tube and ran out the the old stuff into a big bucket untill in came out clear from the cooler line. Have done it on several occasions after fording rivers.

 

some shops have a tranny fluid flushing machine, you could use that,

also, i had to flush the tranny on my truck awhile ago: thus
talk to your local tranny shop, and see what line is the " in " line on your tanny ...not the out....disconect that line, and have a few gallons of ATF ready to pour down the tranny fill tube, and let a few gallons out into a bucket. that should fix it right up,

i would truley reccomend the shop method...where as they run through all the gears, and latta latta latta ...they should have it up on the rack, so they can run it in gear for a little while, and let it all circulate, ...

the shop i worked at..did it for about 69 $ or so prices may vary
