94 B2300/Ranger Gas Gauge
Any known problems with '94 Ranger/B2300 gas gauges? I just got a '94 B2300, and gas gauge reads empty with the key ON, and about 1/4 tank with the key OFF. Was told by previous owner it occasionally works, but I've never seen it work. Am starting to procure manuals and dig around the truck myself, but don't want to re-solve the problem if it's a known one. Haven't seen mention on the net of it being a recurring problem, but just starting to dig...
Thanks,
Will

Had the same problem with mine, ended up being a faulty fuel sender.
Unfortunately, I had to buy the fuel pump/sending unit combination, cost $120.00 at O'Reilly Auto Parts, and $95.00 labor to install it.
You'll either have to remove the bed or use an overhead lift to install it.
Good Luck !

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jul-02 AT 10:38 AM (EST)]On my thunderbird the fuel gauge was wacked and it had a bad ground.
thats after they quoted me 4 hours labor to drop the tank + parts
took me 5 min to find the missing ground
It might be that simple.. then again you might need to replace the fuel sending unit which is what I thought MY problem was.

BTW you dont have to remove the bed you could drop the tank.. its
just much easier to remove the bed susposedly. Since I have never removed the bed on my ranger I couldn't tell ya but i know its a real be-itch to drop a tank.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jul-02 AT 10:29 AM (EST)]I would suspect a bad fuel level sender as well. I don't have any experience with this on a Ranger/B2300, but with an 1989 Ford Mustang.
I dropped the gas tank at least 3 times on that car, and it wasn't that big a deal.
Like Rand, I also don't know how hard removal of the bed would be on the truck, but I would think that the tank would be easier. After all, how much does the bed weigh? It certainly doesn't seem like a one man job unless you have some kind of lift. The tank is easily a one man job, just run it pretty low on gas before you try to remove it.
