I have a 1979 F-150 4X4 351M. I need a snow plow before winter hits. Am I limited to using 73-79 F-150 plow mounts or will another make/model/year bolt up? Thanks!
You are limited to the getting a plow specific to your truck. There are a lot of used ones out there at a cheap price. If you can't find the right one, but do find one at the right price, check with the manufacturer and see if the right parts are still available for your application. If not, depending on if you can weld, drill, etc.,you can fabricate the pieces to make it work. A Meyers blade and frame is probably about the lightest. With an F-150 the less weight on that front end the better.
I bought a Meyers Max Plow off of a Burnt Chevy at the Salvage yard. All It done was melt the plastic Moldboard and Deflector. I made it fit the 79 frame and now I have a Meyers Quick Mount and it sure is nice to take the head off by pulling 2 pins. It really turned out to be a nice plow and I only have $500 in it Total.
If I find a plow mount from a '74 F-150 4X4 or one off a '78 Bronco or a '77 F-250 4X4, will they fit my '79 F-150 4X4? I'm wondering what years and models share the same frame specs.
Thanks,
Nathan
