2.8 auto crank vs. manual crank

Hello, I am currently searching for donor motors for my '84 4x4 Ranger, it has a 2.8 w/ 4-speed manual . I have located a 4x4 truck which has a good running engine, but it is an automatic. My question is this, Did Ford bore all 2.8 cranks to accept a pilot bearing, or only ones that came with a man. from factory? I have run into this problem before on a Big Block Olds and figured I'd ask before spending my $$$. Any insight would help, Buck

i think on the 2.8 and 2.9 the pilot bearing sits in the flywheel not the crank

That would be inaccurate, to say the least...
The pilot bearing is inserted into the bore at the
end of the crankshaft...
