I have my 78 F-150 that is basically stock and I am wanting to run 35's with out doing a suspension lift my 31x10.50's just aren't cutting it, not enough axle clearance. I just hate getting stuck ALL the time! Will some 2" coil spring spacers in the front work? I am also not opposed to using a sawzall! Any input is much appreciated.
I would think 33's is the max you could run without a lift. If I bounce mine 77 at full lock I will rub but otherwise even clears even with the bed fully loaded.
i had a 78 f-100 with no lift and 35's ( BFG muds) didn't rub. came real close at the front fenders by the bumper when the wheels where turned. there pictures in my gallery " old project ".
I have a 74 f100 that everyone told me is lifted but i didnt think it did. 35"s marshall powerguard m/ts and the fenders are slightly moded. check my gallery.
I've got a 78 4X4 with 33x12.50's and I have plenty of up and down clearance, however I rub on the radius arms. Instead of being able to turn the wheel twice, I can only turn it 1.5 times. I'm okay with that! I've got room for 35's and plan on moving up to the with the help of a leveling kit for the front end.
On your truck (because we all know they are different from one to the next) turn your wheel full to one side, and use a measureing tape from the furthest point forward to the fender and see if you can go an extra inch or two in each direction. If you can, than go for it. If not, get taller springs on the front or spacers. Redneck all the way!!!
78 bronco stock or with 2" lift rubs with my 33"x12.5" super swamper tsl's. The outer lugs (wich stick out pretty far with the tsl's) catch the radius arms. I have heard you can adjust the steering stops though I have never bothered to try. There are many factors with rubbing. How tall the tire is, how wide the tire is, how wide the rim is, and what backspacing the rim has. All those factors come in to play. And the actual tire dimensions vary between brands.
My 78 is running 33x12.50x15's and has plenty of clearance. I put a 3" body lift on it to make up the extra clearance. You might want to look into that route. Body lifts are much easier than a suspension lift and might just make the difference in this case. Two things if you do this, remove the radiator, and mount it lower, and don't forget to disconnect your tranny linkage before you raise the body. I have a C6 in mine, and didn't remove the linkage. I must have stretched something in the tranny, because I cannot manually shift to 1st anymore. Not a big deal though, just one of those oops..
I would guess you could clear the 35's but you might want a little wiggle room just in case.
