Thanks, I would take a new Dodge Or F150 any day no matter the fit or finish, i dont so hard i would wear one out to fast anyway. I however wouldnt take the GM 5.3, I have heard a lot of bad things about it, but in the same aspect I have heard that if the 6.0 were the main priority engine in the 1/2 tons that GM would own the 1/2 ton class.

Definitely, kinda like what Ford did(although IMO the '04 + F150s are still sleds with the 3 valve 5.4L) I think Ford is trying TOO hard to keep all of their engines similiar with the Modular family. They desperately need to go outside the box here and get an engine that will give their new 6000 lb monster of a half ton some life. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Ford fan for life, always have loved them and always will(I have five drivable trucks-all Fords). I think all of the current(all makes) half tons are starved of the power they deserve, except maybe the Titan(and no sport trucks ie L, SS, or SRT10) Just my .02

Yes I agree. Ford needs a compltley different engine for the half ton. The currnet 5.4 is not cutting it, too weak for such a heavy truck. I dont think theres anything wrong with going back too a pushrod V8, Ford did great with those and they didnt shoot spark plugs out of the heads either. How about something around a 5.7 or 5.8L fuel injected pushrod engine like the FE? Why not? With modern comptuers and EFI they could sqeeze some good mileage out of that size of an engine and still pass emissions. The modular engine just doseant seem that impressive too me, the pushrod deigisn may be old, but it works.

Have any of you guys driven a truck with the 5.4? I think it's a strong motor. Let's remember that Ford is not gunning big. The 5.4 is not their big gas engine. Automakers will not jam larger engines into smaller trucks because the mileage will suffer. The 5.4 is perfectly capable in the F150 and Expedition, and in some cases the F250 (when not used for extremely heavy towing).

If Ford doesnt want to put bigger motors in their half tons due to bad mileage i think they are doing themselves wrong. Because from what i have read on these forums the new 5.4 seems sluggish and doesnt get very good mileage, if they arent going to get good mileage they might as well have the power.

The top 2 im my book. IMO Chev, Nissan, and Toyota are lagging behind right now.

No need to apologise. We all like a good debate anytime of the day. I have to dissagree with your analysis though. Sisde by side the Ram and F-150 are both built well, and both perform well. This is 2004 lets not judge Dodge on what they were 10-15 years ago, because they have come a long long way from then. I alson know this is a Ford forum and I know there is alot of Die-Hard Ford fans here, but to call the 3rd generation Ram junk is just plain wrong.
