from F-150 to an F-250...

Ok, so I've been spending a lot of time with my uncle Ron that hauls trailers for Pace. He has an F-350 Lariat. His friend drives an F-250 XLT diesel. From being on long trips with my uncle, and he's hauling about 6,000lbs.+(not including the 65 foot trailer), and he gets about 500+ miles on a tank. Then, riding in his friend's F-250, the ride is much smoother than my '97 F-150 Lariat. Lately I've been going to dealerships and test driving the new F-150, because around February of next year, I'm getting a new truck. But lately...I've been wanting an F-250 diesel. My dad has started up a classic car restoration shop, and once he gets more cars, I'll be needing to haul them to the shop, which is 200 miles away. I tried hauling a '65 Mustang, with no engine in it and barely anything but the frame and body, on a car hauler, and my truck was struggling. I was wondering if anybody can give me a good reason *NOT* to get an F-250 instead of a 1/2 ton. Also, if anybody can point out the pros and cons of getting a diesel 250 over the gas 150, please point them out. I'm not familiar with diesel trucks all too well. My uncle isn't very mechanically inclined, but he's been driving semi's and 1-tons for years. All he can tell me is "insurance goes down because it's considered a work truck, and you'll be able to haul almost anything you can get your hands on." So I would like more info. Thanks in advance. Latah.

a diesel will get you much better gas milage, better power, and cheaper repairs. I REALLY wish I had held out for a 250 diesel over my 99 150. I tow horses often, and while my 5.4L handles it easily, the milage stinks. (with the winch and the Whelen bar I get about 10mpg unloaded not towing )

Well, it makes me think twice about hauling cars with my 150, heh. Now I think more than ever that an F-250 diesel would be a justifiable purchase for me. Plus, it will give me experience with significantly bigger truck than the F-150 that I drive, and will allow me to help out my uncle on long trips, where maybe I could drive for a while. I do fine with 16ft. trailers and such, even though I know that there is a HUGE difference between a 16ft. trailer and the 65 footer that my uncle hauls. But the bigger trailers "come with the territory" of having a much more adequately powered vehicle to tow them with. Correct? Yeah, I think so, :P. Anyway, thanks a lot for your replies guys, if you have anything else to say, please let me know. I won't be ready until about February of next year, as I said in my last post, to get the truck, but I like to be prepared....really prepared, lol. Latah.
