If you have a "built-built" 302, you shouldn't be wasting your time with the older 3 spd w/OD tranny. You can not make optimum use of the high performance engine with it. IMHO, you need to be investing some money in a "world class" 5 speed!!!

I did not know that they were rare. I have one I picked up in a trade that came out of an early 70s truck but haven't decided what to do with it. Maybe put behind a small block in my 55

Borg Warner T-85N overdrive.

Optional on 1965/71 F100's with 240, 300 I-6's and 352/360/390 engines. 1969/71 F100 302.

Passenger cars with 352/390's offered the same O/D trans from 1961 thru 1967.

The T-85N is an excellent transmission, and will get over 25 Highway MPG in the right conditions. 20-22 Highway MPG is the norm.

Issues: The parts are mostly obsolete and are hard to find, both internally and externally.

I wouldn't suggest anyone speed shift a T-85N, but to be realistic, I wouldn't suggest anyone speed shift any Ford 3 speed...except the old Zephyr 3 speed transmission, which was just about bulletproof.

Ford refers to this floor shift transmission as the Ford RUG SR-OD Single Rail 4 Speed Overdrive. First introduced in 1977 on the Ford Granada.

The 3 speed Borg Warner overdrives had the shift lever on the column. The trans is a side shifter, and first gear is non syncro.

I wasn't an FTE member 15 years ago, I joined in 2006. I do not sell parts, so have never had an O/D trans for sale.
