I have a 99 f150 supercab 4x4 with a 5.4l v8 with gibson headers and dual 3" exhaust with a magnaflow dual in dual out muffler and no cat converters. I recently moved from Idaho to washington and here they do emissions So, I'm going to need to get some cat converters, I dont want to spend a lot of money but I want to get a good set that are high flow. Any recommendations? also what is the air tube for and do you recommend that I get a pair with or withought the air tube? I am looking to get a pair that have a 2 1/4" inlet and a 2.5" outlett if I can find some otherwise I think I will get 2.5" unless recommended otherwise. Thanks
yeah I'v checked ebay, thats probably going to be the route I take, just trying to find one that is high flow that has a 2 1/4th inch inlett and 2.5" outlet also would like to know what the airtube is for and weather I should get one with the airtube or withought it or if it even makes a difference.
The air tube is where the engine's air pump (if applicable with modular motors) injects air before the catalytic converter to aid in lighting off the mixture - allowing the catalyst action on the converter to occur properly to clean up the exhaust. IF the catalytic converter is designed without an air tube, it has a different catalytic reaction inside that doesn't require additional air to operate. If you don't have an air pump, no reason to get ones with an air tube, it won't do as well a job.
