hi allan1010, i also am new to american cars but my path has also lead me to the agent in ripon, he was a great help when i called in, but he did not seem keen when i wanted to fit the system myself and came up with a real fansy price.
tartarini is the system i bought of ebay and for a couple of hundred i thought it was worth a shot.
every forklift truck at work uses impco and are rated very highly.
again let us know how you get on. bokker.

That sounds a bit odd to me, the old Z cars had rack & pinion. Could be a real tough swap. Now I can't say for sure, but my '72 has rear steer (the steering box, drag link etc. behind the crossmember) and if yours is the same you'd really have a tough time getting that R&P unit in there...plus, it would be interesting to drive as it would turn the opposite direction you turn the wheels as the Z R&P unit is made for front steer.
Of course, you could be talking about some bizzare Aussie stuff we don't have up here, so I may be way off base.
If so, please disregard and just put me down as yet another Yank talkin' crap!

G'day TigerDan
You are right
I had heard the ZCar story from 2 different people, turns out the first bloke told the second bloke who told me and thus an urban legend is born.
The box used is really a ZF box.
Like your idea of a rack that works in reverse. You could really mess with some heads with that.

Falcon steering box will work and I believe that is what the boys at ftrucksaustralia use but mine has a 75 series Landcruiser steering box. Mine was factory power steer but when the box wore out the previous woner converted it to a toyota box as that is what was available cheap(more like free from the mines). I have recently had to change the steer pump but couldn't get one of the large resevoir types so had to settle for an XF Falcon pump which seems to be doing the job quite well but doesn't seem as strong as the original pump was. Anyway my truck is an Aussie 80(like US 79) F100 LWB 4x4 with 351C, 435 and 205 with Dana 44 3.5 in the front and 9 inch 3.5 in the rear, has duel fuel setup but I only run on LPG although the LPG is 75c a litre out here now, will convert to straight LPG when I add twin turbos(making the manifolds atm).

what i drive is a good ole stock 2004 f250 6.0, gots the sc, sb and is painted white with a silver bottom, one day it will have a leveling kit and some 35,s.
but if i lived in another country besides the USA, i would like to have one of those defender series or a cool nissan patrol.
i don't know what ford type cars are in autralia or other world places or might have listed.
that car on madmax is pretty cool, unusual looking but cool as heck, would throw that in my collection also.
