Question 1951 F1 Hood Emblem

I am in the process of restoring my 1951 F1 and the main hood emblem on the front of the hood has pits and blemishes on it. I have tried to find a new one. Does anyone know where you can find a new one?

If no one on here has one for you, probably your best bet is to look for one on ebay, and try to get one that was painted originally, and have it chromed (if you're wanting it chromed, that is). It seems the ones painted originally have held up much better through the years, at least with the few I've seen. I bought a nice painted one on ebay that when chrome plated has turned out absolute gorgeous.

Did the chroming cost alot? I had this one quoted to chrome and it was $300. For that I might as well paint it.

scooter99...........$300.00? Whew! That's kind of high unless it's show chrome. Daily driver chrome should be about half of that for that emblem.

Many of them show up on ebay in pretty good shape. Painted ones held up better. Mine was originally painted argent from what I can tell.

The Standard cabs were painted the body color as was the grille. On the 5 star or five star extra cab, the early built 51's were painted Ivory and the later built 51's were painted Argent (Silver Gray) to match the grille accordingly.

Yes, I have seen many pictures of those hood pieces chromed and even one book in particular describes it as Ford's way of dressing the 1951 model up by chroming it, but they go into great detail of the early versus late built paint schemes but no mention whatsoever of chroming other than the side bar on the hood along with the stainless steel pieces and vent devider. From what I can tell it must have been an option or just available with the V8 as is the V8 emblem is chrome also on mine. Repro V8 emblems are available.

There's one on Ebay now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...495326912&rd=1

I paid $25 on Ebay for it, and sent it to a place in Blue Springs Missouri (Glenn Marion Ford) and they had it chromed for $90. I was very happy with the results.
