i have a 97 f-150 the lights went out last night had to drive home holding the passing lights on, the parking lights still work has anybody ever experienced this before and if yes what is the fix? i pretty much have a daytime truck or bassackwards vampire truck
thanks
Sounds like your low beam bulbs are burnt out. Try replacing one of them and if that works, replace the other one. It may also be the switch for the low beams.
thank you i will try that tomorrow and let you know if it works. i dont have high or low beams now.the lights only work when i hold in on the passing lights
tried new bulbs still nothing but passing lights , all the fuses are good and the light switch checks out, may have to break down and take it to the shop
I have a 97 F 150 and my lights died last nite to.They have been acting up for a few weeks. Think its the switch... just looking to see if someone else has the same problem.....dark in the mornings now
i checked out everything today i pretty much narrowed it to the multi switch i believe the part is around 100.00 , one guy said tilt the steering wheel all the way up if the lights work it is just a loose connector on the switch well mine didnt work so i will try the multi switch and before you go poking around in the steering column unhook the battery you dont wont the air bag to take your head off if you accidently hit the wrong wire
I had a 97 f150 and a 98 EXPY both had a recall on the multifunction switch. My problem wasn't with the lights though...it was the windshield wipers. The washer wouldn't work. I looked on NHTSA and this is the link http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...sb/results.cfm. Probably doesn't help...
Got it back from the shop,it was the multifunction switch assembly. The one with the wiper, hi\lo ect...
The part was 153.90 and they charged me 1.8 hours labour.
I'm going to find out more about the recall the last post mentioned, the link didn't work for me.I feel ripped off.

CONCERNS WITH THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH. *TW
well my multi switch comes in tomorrow from napa $61.00 and im going to tackle the project thursday any tricks on taking the steering wheel off (puller, big hammer, etc. )
whoa there wagon burner on the wheel pulling. I thought this was a big job too, but turned out to be easy. The multi-function switch comes out fairly easily with the removal of a few trim pieces. I forget the exact directions, but they are clear in the Haynes book. If you don't have them, I can post them.
My friend just replaced his in a tbird. No wheel removal necassary. Just remove the screws on the trim piece encompassing the steering column/ignition. Easy to get to.
The headlights quit working on my E150 van (1997). It was the multi-switch. The part cost about $90 from Ford and took me at the most 1/2 hiour to replace. Remove the trim from around the sterring column. There are a few screws and a couple of connectors. It was not hard at all.
